Sega has had a long history of quickly making systems for a quick buck but then when the system failed they moved on leaving the hundreds of thousands of owners left with useless equipment. Sega's latest venture seems to be a departure from this. The Dreamcast is the best system on the market when compared to the PSX and N64. This is obvious but the Dreamcast does have enough in it to survive the onslaught it will soon face from the PSX2, Nintendo's Dolphin and Microsoft's X-Box. For one, Dreamcast games have some of the best graphics I have ever seen. I have only played a few games but they were excellent, especially Soul Caliber. I was in awe at the game's graphics. Sega seems to have a winner on their hands. Also, since the Dreamcast will be the first system to have online gaming available they will have a head start on the competition. Adding to the machine's power is that Sega is aggressively marketing the Dreamcast at an extremely competitive price. The price tag of $200 is offset by the fact that a $50 rebate is now available when you purchase one and you can get the system for free if you sign up for Sega's Internet service. This in its own is an excellent deal. The only gripe I have in the system is in the controller design that is somewhat awkward. When I played my index fingers got tired because the trigger buttons weren't high enough. I don't know if this is just with me or if the problem is more widespread. Other than that the system in its own is solid and the games that are produced are of very high quality. To conclude the Dreamcast is a good buy but whether it can stand up to the future systems is still uncertain.
Pros: Good price, excellent games, online capabilities
Cons: Minor controller problem, Came out early so it is unsure if it can withstand other system's releases
